We've added a new Pitches sub-forum as a place to workshop various types of pitches which include (but aren't limited to) Twitter pitches, Log lines & Hooks, and Elevator pitches.
What are pitches?
They are short blurbs about your story's concept to create reader interest, which can range anywhere from a single sentence to a 1-3 minute pitch, depending on the circumstance. It's important to develop these core concepts about your story, so you're ready when that stranger finds out you're a writer and asks the dreaded, "What's your book about?" question. Pitches are also a tool which can be used in a variety of situations, such as conferences, agent one-on-ones, and meetings with industry professionals. It lets them know about your character, their goals, and the story's core conflict.
Types of pitches
There are different types of pitches that serve different functions. For example, the Twitter pitch is under 280 characters, and includes hashtags to identify audience and genre, while an elevator pitch should be something you can deliver in the time it takes to ride an elevator. To find out more, please see the pinned posts in the individual sub-forums.
At QueryConnection, we certainly don't know everything there is to know about the types of pitches out there and their different methods. So, as you begin to develop these core components surrounding your story, we encourage you to go out and learn the different formats to find out what works best for you and your story. Once you're ready, we're here to help you workshop your stories so you're ready with the perfect pitch next time someone asks you about your book.
Looking forward to hearing more about your stories!
